Opening this morning June 22 at the Ho Chi Minh City Museum of Fine Arts, the exhibition A Love of Painting by collector Truong Van Thuan introduces about 200 works of painting and sculpture, of which nearly half are works shows portraits of him and his family. Truong Van Thuan came to collecting paintings and art statues by chance, when he helped a family of artists and a collector in difficult circumstances nearly thirty years ago. Unexpectedly, his devotion to his friend made him begin to enjoy looking at paintings, then that curiosity grew into a love of painting without him even realizing it.
The paintings really helped him relax after stressful and complicated hours in his work as a high-ranking police officer. And now, as he begins to retire, his passion for art has occupied most of his time.

Like many art collectors, collector Truong Van Thuan also went through an awkward time collecting paintings by artists who studied at the Indochina College of Fine Arts and some famous artists who have passed away. Collector Truong Thuan has found a "sure way" to collect is to buy from the author himself, or paintings with a clear origin. Taking advantage of the time, he went to the houses of painters and sculptors Huynh Van Thuan, Mai Long, Tran Luu Hau, Bui Quang Ngoc, Van Tho, Truong Van Y, Ta Quang Bao, Tran Tuy, Le Lien, Nguyen Lam, Nghiem Xuan Hung, Vu Ba, Ho Phong, Hua Thanh Binh, Pham Minh Hai, Nguyen Tan Cuong, Do Phan, Trinh Minh Son, Hoang Hong Cam... And his house became a regular gathering place for artists, sculptor.
Artists appreciate collector Truong Van Thuan for his thoughtfulness, sincerity as a friend, and above all, his appreciation for artists and passion for works of art in a natural, non-commercial way. For him, artists are the people who help him on his way to perfecting his painting collection.
A set of portrait paintings of collector Truong Van Thuan and his wife (circus artist Anh Tuyet) gradually formed from those conversations and meetings. The number of paintings and portrait sketches of the collector and his wife has reached more than 200. This number is very small compared to the thousands of paintings, statues and sketches he keeps - the result of the love that artists and sculptors have given to the couple who love painting.
Over the years, Thuan's house became more and more imbued with friendship and artistic atmosphere. He is very lucky to have a partner who always supports and encourages her husband to realize his passion as a special love. Because she is also someone who works in an art form and also loves beauty, and is always friendly and hospitable.
In addition to learning about art knowledge and appreciating artists, collector Truong Van Thuan also works as a museum employee. He personally manages the works he is storing on his computer, collects and adds author and work information. Perhaps his profession has helped him to be careful and consider the information he puts into his work. He believes that real painting enthusiasts with a love of art will be willing to destroy any painting that is fake.
Certainly, it is something worth encouraging for professional players and will contribute to creating a healthy market for Vietnamese fine arts.
