However, after reading the news in Tuoi Tre newspaper about "Exhibition of sketches by famous artist Nguyen Gia Tri", we could not postpone visiting Binh Minh Art gallery any longer.
Come to admire the famous artist's works as the news on Tuoi Tre revealed, "Collector Truong Van Thuan will, for the first time, "open the warehouse" to introduce precious works to the public."
Meeting KT&ĐS reporters, Mr. Truong Van Thuan did not immediately talk about the prestigious collection of famous artist Nguyen Gia Tri but wanted to talk about Binh Minh Art gallery first. "When we meet a newspaper about architecture, we have to talk about architecture," he laughed.
Mr. Thuan excitedly shared: "Having my own gallery is something I have cherished for a long time, but only until I moved to 29A Ngo Thoi Nhiem did I have the opportunity to do it. Actually, when I was living in the old house on Nguyen Thien Thuat, I also had a gallery but it was renovated from an old villa, this one, however, is a new construction. My wish when creating a gallery is to have an exhibition place as well as a place for exchanges and transactions between collectors, artists, and sculptors, to build it into a cultural address, a meeting place for everyone".
The first floor is for small-sized paintings. The backless bench in the room on the first floor is a convenient place for guests to view the paintings, sit down to rest, and then continue to look at the paintings.
As someone who has been collecting paintings for decades, has been to many galleries at home and abroad, understands the needs of viewers, Mr. Truong Van Thuan has the basis to fulfill his desire to bring the most comfortable feeling for the viewer of the painting. The exhibition space of Binh Minh Art gallery is the ground floor and first floor, the entire area is nearly 20 meters long and 5 meters wide. The ground floor is where guests are welcomed, so there is a small table and chairs for communication, and a lounge set with 4 single chairs leaning against one wall so guests can sit and chat. The ground floor is also where there are walls dedicated to hanging large-sized paintings, with sculptures interspersed between them. The first floor is where a large number of smaller paintings are hung. From the ground floor to the first floor is a one-sided staircase running along the building close to the wall designed with boxes for statues, bookcases, shelves to display books, souvenirs and sculptures.
Mr. Thuan expressed, "I was the one who came up with the idea of building, every corner, every detail, where to display statues, where to hang paintings, where is the space for people to view the paintings and the lighting system, the distances and sizes are also specifically calculated. The two backless benches at both ends of the room on the first floor are convenient places for guests to view the paintings, sit down to rest, and then continue to look at the paintings."
In fact, in addition to the exhibition space, the entire basement and rooms behind the ground floor of Binh Minh Art gallery are designed as painting warehouses with pull-out shelves, lighting, air conditioning and necessary conditions to preserve paintings.
An art gallery in a house with neoclassical architectural features appearing on a small road in an area with many villas and trees in the center of District 3 has become a familiar address for art lovers.

In addition to the collection with paintings by hundreds of famous artists divided into periods of "Indochinese art, Gia Dinh artists before 1975, Northern artists before 1975 and artists after 1975", Binh Minh Art The Gallery is also a place that regularly organizes specialized exhibitions that have a reputation among professionals.
Only since March 2021 after officially opening at 29A Ngo Thoi Nhiem until now, collector Truong Van Thuan has organized 6 exhibitions of famous artists that interested experts such as Ho Huu Thu and Dang Kim Long, Le Thanh, Le Vuong, Nguyen Xuan Viet - Nguyen Thi Bich Nga, Nam Anh. The number of such exhibitions is not many. Mr. Truong Van Thuan said, the process of preparing an exhibition includes very time-consuming steps such as selection, photography, catalog making, framing, and marketing. Furthermore, he is selective in making exhibitions, each exhibition has its own unique characteristics, so it is highly appreciated by experts. "Exhibition of sketches by famous artist Nguyen Gia Tri" includes over 50 paintings and many documents of the artist displayed for the first time attracts attention, for both the quantity and quality of the works.
Answering KT&DS's question about the unique and rare collection announced on the 30th anniversary of the death of famous artist Nguyen Gia Tri, collector Truong Van Thuan stopped to reminisce. Since the mid-80s of the last century, he had the opportunity to get to know Mr. Nguyen Gia Tri and his family. In fact, Mr. Truong Van Thuan has been passionate about painting and photography since he was a child but never met his fate. It was from Mr. Nguyen Gia Tri's paintings that he learned deeply about painting and began to collect. In 2000, he had another opportunity to collect when Mr. Nguyen Gia Tri's family intended to transfer his sketch set along with some paintings and documents. And in 2023, this collection will be released to the public on the 30th anniversary of the artist's death.
Where to display statues, where to hang paintings, where is the space for people to admire the paintings, the lighting system, distances, sizes... are also specifically calculated.

According to Mr. Truong Van Thuan, before demonstrating the lacquer technique, famous artist Nguyen Gia Tri made many sketches, the details were carefully calculated from ideas, graphics, colors to composition. "My wish when organizing this exhibition is for viewers to see the meticulous personality and carefulness in every detail of famous artist Nguyen Gia Tri through the documents prepared for the creative process," Mr. Truong Van Thuan shared. The collection is highly appreciated by experts and has extended the list of exhibitions of Binh Minh Art Gallery.
Talking about the future, Mr. Truong Van Thuan said that in the near future at Binh Minh Art Gallery there will be an exhibition by artist Nguyen Dinh Thuan, graduated from Hue National College of Fine Arts before 1975, currently lives and composes in the United States. After researching through experts, believing that Binh Minh Art Gallery is a "standard" place, artist Nguyen Dinh Thuan decided to bring his paintings back to the country for exhibition. Mr. Truong Van Thuan said that the preparation process for the exhibition has completed the basic steps and the paintings have been transferred.
Binh Minh Art Gallery continues to open its doors and lights up, giving professionals and the art-loving community the opportunity to enjoy new works.
