Exhibition "SOUL POETRY - SILK - LACQUER"

At 10 o'clock on January 8, 2022, at Binh Minh art gallery (No. 29A Ngo Thoi Nhiem Street, District 3, Ho Chi Minh City) the opening of a painting exhibition titled "Poetic Soul - Silk - Lacquer" took place. The exhibition displayed 22 lacquer paintings (small and medium size) by artist Nguyen Xuan Viet and 20 silk and oil paintings by artist Nguyen Thi Bich Nga.

Artist Nguyen Xuan Viet, born in 1949 in Thailand, in 1963, when he was only 14 years old, he and patriotic overseas Vietnamese returned to Vietnam following the call of President Ho Chi Minh. In 1966, he studied painting at the Vietnam Fine Arts School, but in 1968 he had to leave school to join the army. In 1975, he was sent by the military unit to study at Ho Chi Minh City University of Fine Arts and graduated from the Silk Department of this school.

The fate with lacquer came to him when on June 1, 1975 he met artist Nguyen Gia Tri. Initially, every time he painted a picture (at school or at home), he would show it to artist Nguyen Gia Tri to get his suggestions and advice. But it was not until 1979 that he officially studied lacquer painting and worked with artist Nguyen Gia Tri. And it was not until decades later that he was assigned by artist Nguyen Gia Tri to do the final work to complete the lacquer work "Spring garden Central - South - North".

be said that Nguyen Xuan Viet is an excellent student of Nguyen Gia Tri, because not only he learnt the art of lacquer but also learned Nguyen Gia Tri's living and working style. It was him who recorded and edited the everyday but immortal sayings of Nguyen Gia Tri into the book "Nguyen Gia Tri talks about creativity" which has been reprinted for the 3rd time.

During his Fine Arts career, he attended many exhibitions at home and abroad, and his works are preserved in many domestic and foreign collections.

Artist Nguyen Thi Bich Nga, born in 1961 in Saigon; In 1983, she graduated from Polytechnic University but did not pursue the profession she studied but stuck with painting when she married artist Nguyen Xuan Viet.

Her painting career started with working as a lacquer worker. She gradually learned to draw and paint on many topics with all types of materials: lacquer, oil paint, silk... She used to participate in national exhibitions and many individual exhibitions and group exhibitions in Thailand and Ho Chi Minh City.
