Displaying a few works from the collection of paintings and sketches by artist Le Van Xuong this time, collector Truong Van Thuan and Chon Auction hope to contribute to a series of events marking the reappearance of these works. The work of a talented artist who was passionate about creativity throughout his life and left behind thousands of works of oil painting, gouache, watercolor, silk... about the landscape and people of Vietnam.
The collection was formed by chance through the familiarity of Collector Truong Van Thuan and his wife, distinguished artist Anh Tuyet (owner of Binh Minh Art Gallery - Ho Chi Minh City) with the Painter's children. Le Van Xuong for a long time (they are all artists, painters, etc. working in the field of art), and more so because of the love of painter Le Van Xuong's paintings. However, due to space limitations, we only display more than 20 paintings, landscape sketches and three special portraits. They are a portrait of his father whom he always loved, a self-portrait and a portrait of Mrs. Kim Lan (often called Mrs. Dao) - the third wife who lived with him in the city. Ho Chi Minh until his death on October 14, 1988.
Painter Le Van Xuong (1917-1988) was not only painted, but also a talented sculptor. He was one of the famous artists and held personal exhibitions very early in Saigon in 1941 and 1949 and in Dalat city in 1951. A rare personal exhibition at that time and Making a big splash was the solo exhibition Hanoi 36 Streets in 1953 at the Hanoi Opera House with 29 paintings about beautiful neighborhoods and landscapes of the capital Hanoi. This is also the last solo exhibition while he was alive, although his paintings are still loved and collected by many people.
After a long period of time, the reappearance with the art-loving public in recent years began with the painting Pulling Cannons up the Hill (1961) displayed in the collection exhibition of Mr. Tira Vanichtheeranon ( Thailand collector) at the Ho Chi Minh City Museum of Fine Arts. Next, on December 17, 2016, the silk painting Young Lady (portrait of his daughter Y Lan) was sold at Lythi Auction in Ho Chi Minh City. The exhibition "A Love of Painting" at the Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts Museum from June 22 to July 2, 2017 by Collector Truong Van Thuan also only displayed 2 oil paintings by artist Le Van Xuong. In the exhibition named “Miraculous” organized by his daughter and also a painting collector on September 21, 2018 in the city. HCM displayed 101 works on the occasion of the 101st anniversary of his birth and 30th anniversary of his death, the display with the highest number of works ever.
However, with four comebacks, there are only 105 works compared to the thousands of paintings, statues, and sketches of the once famous artist Le Van Xuong, which is truly too few. Therefore, organizing to introduce more of his works so that the art-loving public can better know and understand the values he left behind has contributed to creating the appearance of modern Vietnamese fine art and to People love the country and people of Vietnam more through the emotions of true artist Le Van Xuong.
