He is also one of the famous artists at the forefront of creating a new artistic trend for Vietnam, with elegant lines and new ideas about lacquer art. Familiar themes in his paintings are graceful, leisurely young women in poetic natural scenery. With lacquer, vermilion, gold, silver, eggshells and puce, Nguyen Gia Tri has created a splendid beauty and mysterious depth for lacquer paintings, bringing lacquer techniques to the pinnacle and affirming the importance of this painting material in Vietnamese Fine Arts.
Collector Truong Van Thuan said: "I have been collecting paintings for a long time since the 80s. During that period, I had the fate of being closed with the family of artist Nguyen Gia Tri, so I really wanted to collect Sir Nguyen Gia Tri's first sketches from which the artist's original pen spirit began to compose the work”.
We can find his works in Vietnam Fine Arts Museum, Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts Museum and in many private collections at home and abroad.
However, few people know that before the lacquer technique was demonstrated and sublimated, he had to make plenty of sketches; many steps, many details are carefully calculated in terms of ideas, graphics, colors and composition; many of his paintings are truly masterpieces.
