The Exhibition entited "A Love of Painting" organized at the
Museum of Fine Arts of Hochiminh City, introduces more than 200 paintings and sculptures of collector Trương Văn Thuận.
When organizing this Exhibition for the first time, the collector wishes to share his love of Fine Arts with the public, while at the same time to mobilize himself and to encourage himself through this refined pleasure which is quite difficult and complicated.
Collector Trương Văn Thuận came to collecting paintings and fine art sculptures through a predestined love tie, starting from the time he helped the family of an artist and a collector, who were in a difficult situation almost thirty years ago. He hasn't expected that his trueheartedness vis-à-vis his friend has caused him to start liking to watch the paintings, then this curiosity has become greater and greater, turning into a passion for painting at a time he himself couldn't recognize. The paintings have actually helped him to relax, following tense and complicated moments and minutes in the daily work of a high official in the Public Security branch. And now, upon beginning to retire, his passion for fine arts has taken almost all his leisure time.
Similar to all painting addicts, collector Trương Văn Thuận has also gone through an embarrassed period of time when he lacked experiences and knowledge in collecting and distinguishing authentic from fake paintings. Taking advantage of time, he has visited many painters and sculptors' dwellings, and his own house has turned into a constant place of meetings and gatherings of various artists. The collection of portraits of collector Trương Văn Thuận and his wife (circus artist Ánh Tuyết) has little by little come into life through numerous chats and meetings. The number of portrait paintings, sculptures, and sketches of the collector, his wife, and children has amounted to more than 100 units. This number is quite small, comparing to thousands of paintings, sculptures, and sketches he's having in his possession. This Exhibition displays some 200 paintings and sculptures of 81 painters and sculptors, almost one half of them are portraits of the collector and his family realized by such painters and sculptors; there are around 20 lacquers, almost 100 oil paintings, and 15 sculptures...
